Peace at Last

Peace at Last

A Poem by Kasey Miriam

The fields lie barren
Garden over grown
Tractor unmaintained
His bed is empty but
he isn't out working
The wheel chair, nor his chair
Hes no longer there
There's no need now for any of the medicine bottles
Though also no more science chats
or coffee and French toast at 5 in the morning
not the way it was
it hadn't been
not for six years
he had lost himself
now
after the last physical breath
at 4:04 on that Sunday morning
The barriers that held him hostage
in his own mind
no longer were his burden
He found himself
His brother, sister and parents
As well as his many dogs
that had gone before him
He found peace
but left our world shaken
He was loved and loved with all his heart
 I Have my memories
and all are good
I knew the whole him better than most
being the oldest grandkid
I'll miss the planting
and tryin to help
cooking
and crosswords
But I know
He'll be there
Walking through life
with his favorite
keeping her safe
and guiding her heart
because stubborn knows stubborn best
And when I buy doughnuts
I'll remember a childhood of memories
with the toughest, kindest man I've ever known
rest easy grandpa
keep the garden going
Ya Kocham Cię dziadek

' I knew the whole him better than most - being the oldest grandkid - I'll miss the planting and tryin to help - cooking and crosswords - But I know - He'll be there ... '

Beautifully laid words, gentle placed laughter and tears from start to finish. You've told how that dear man was, how he lived, and in a way, how he's left his own memorial. Your poem touches the heart. Thank you.
