Defeated

I hit a rough patch so turned to writing to help express my upset.

They say 'look to the future'
But then what do I do 
If when I try to look forward
My past blocks my view

Looking down to my hands 
I see a useless set of cards
Trying mercilessly to use them
But it's always so damn hard

When it came to drawing straws
I drew the short one
I looked around to the others
But they had already gone

I try to pull forward
through wind, rain and storm
But as I'm a coward
I sit cold, weathered and torn

I watch others struggle past
Defying the wind and rain
'Til they reach the sun at last
Shaking of weather and pain

I bathe in envy and sorrow
Apologising to those who pass by
As I'm in the way of tomorrow
I sink lower as I watch them fly
And question if fate will let me die

A pretty depressing write. We all
go through such phases but the good news is that bad times don't stay forever.
Nicely written and good rhyming.
I guess the first line of the second last stanza says "past" and not "pat"
