Cats

Cats

A Poem by Lifeless Energy
"

I was about 12 and obsessed with cats.

"
I hear a creak from behind the door
Moments later I see a black paw
Followed closely by an elegant face
That one rarely sees around the place

On our laps they gently lay
During the sunlit hours of the day
With the soft, soothing rasp of their purr
That follows the stroking of their velvety fur

Yet, as creature of the night they transform from what we know
The beasts with sharp claws, biting fangs and dangerous eyes that glow
Setting off through the grass by the light of the pale moon
Hoping to catch a live mouse very, very soon

Early morning, all cats creep back to their house
Some with presents of a small lifeless mouse
The door is opened and they gracefully waltz in
Go to their bowl filled with food from a tin

Asleep all day, owners thinking you're a real thrill
But you're only getting ready for another night to kill

I LOVE this piece. Beautifully captured the grace and fierceness of cats. Reminds me of a black cat I used to own before he passed. Best cat I ever had. Excellent work!

I had a couple of cats and this sounds very familiar to me. Even the dead cat part. Nice poem.
