that box I put you in

that box I put you in

A Poem by DaniElle LaPointe

it isn't that
I care
So much
about
how
you vote
your reply included the trifecta
 Masculinity
        Misogyny
            Protecting his Freedom of speech
Yet you buffered
with the quick report
that shortly upon hearing him speak
you skipped it as settled
using defining words
Maybe that text
was only three corners
of the box
I've tried
not
to put you in
Yeah it was a catalyst
sad to say

I've been
so soft for
you

others
would never even demand
(dontputmeinabox DANIELLE)
they'd ask of me
and the edges
of their fear
would be legible in the request
blunted by placation
softly saying please

my problem lies within
craving
your
bossiness

is it that we are very much alike
Or no, maybe
so far apart in thinking
that
none
of
this
makes
any
sense
My friend since age ten said
"He isn't right for you Danielle."
Not because of you
being some mean kind of guy
But... because
the fourth corner is simply this:

I'd
probably
eat
 you
alive
