This Life

This Life

A Poem by Alexander Emberson
"

I don't recall who's style I was trying to emulate, but I knew I wanted to do something different.

"

“Take these hands and burn them!” The man shouted in anger.

The crowd began to thicken like melted skin.
Just another bum in the streets, but perhaps he was the exception?
I don’t think anyone cared.

Why bother with trivial things?
Wake up, get dressed, and start your day with a false smile;
Maybe someone will notice this mask you wear, and ponder the concealed truth for awhile.

He just walked past the rows of people
Tears in his eyes. You could feel the heat coming off of him on your face.
I don’t think anyone cared.

“I’ll show you the only real thing in this life!” He shouted one last time.

Awesome!
I felt something was missing or out of place when I finished reading it.
I will have to think on it, then get back to you.
For now, great poem.
