III. Coda

III. Coda

A Poem by Azrael

Silent eyes gaze in night; fireflies darting in cold gray mist.

Reach forth, feel emptiness- breathe in- their pulsing lights,

Before time warps her fleeting delight.

A call across the cosmos, effervescent, seeking a breath of life.

When you spoke, I saw the stars converge upon your tongue.

A forest, countless timbers, until hewn and labored form, fashioned:

I shaped the heart-shadow remedy to scorn.

Enslaved, imprinted, fearful one. Within these eyes, demystify the nature of my soul.

A life well-endowed, discarded, sullied in the muck.

But I will return, Elysian rising, to await the end of dusk.

What vast chasm can my syntax bridge? To venture into my heart?

‘Twas you who found me, dragged me from cages gilt.

I cast a shadow against the setting sun,

Yet you stroll so sweetly, my pieces in tow;

Remember what we used to be.

I’m sorry; I cast it into the sea.

Spiteful gods watch from crowded skies, as furnace-flames test.

No more will I abide- you are mine, you cannot be yours!

Desire murders virtue unsullied. Mine broken by beauty-

As a dark heart decays.

Which heart-truths departed with you?

Can you speak them, now that we've ended it?

Do you feel still, or no longer?

The question suffocates me; I dare not ask it!

Heated flash subsides.

But no, I've done it.

Regret beside myself;

The knife twists

Ever deeper.
