The guardian to my heart

The guardian to my heart

A Poem by Kat-Marie Berti

I met you under a sheet of rain

Pouring down, soaking our collars

Wasn’t sure who you were

But wondered if this was love

Amazed at the beauty in life

The softness resting in your gaze

Fell in love so soon it seemed

Yet in perfect harmony with you

What a match that none could beat

No matter how hard they tried

It wasn’t easy from the start

But you were the guardian to my heart

No one could come to take me away

Was only meant to be yours to have

Take me away, far, far away

In the land we dream of every night

Hide me amongst your darkness

Wrap me up against your chest

Never let me go, hold me tight

I want to feel your mouth against mine

Lie close to me; hear that by your ear

The pounding of our hearts, steady rhythm

The warmth of our bodies bonded as one

I’ll never let you go, your mine to keep

The love I have for you is endless

Your life will never be the same again

I think this skirts the edge of something deeply erotic, and I think it works wonderfully for what you intended. To be deeply in love puts us on the edge of those feelings and on the precipice of commitments that open us to both greater love, and deeper forms of pain because we allow ourselves to become open to them.

Brilliant!

"I met you under a sheet of rain

The first few lines of your poem are very catching and powerful. I think these are the most interesting in your poem. It sets the scene, and creates a visual that everyone who has ever kissed or shared something deeply passionate in the rain can appreciate. Two thumbs up!!

I love the spin these lines give the poem
"I'll never let you go, your mine to keep

The love I have for you is endless

Your life will never be the same again"

The idea that your love is like some sort of radiation, that will change whoever for the rest of their lives, making them completely yours.
