We live each day as if it were our last

We live each day as if it were our last

A Poem by Kat-Marie Berti

We spend our time making plans for tomorrow

While the days pass and leave us empty and uncertain

We spend so much time working until our palms bleed

What’s the point if we’re not sure of seeing the next day

So we live each day as if it were our last

And you would do the same is only you knew

How many times the end has come so near

To extinguishing the light inside our hearts

When times are rough and difficult

We tell ourselves that tomorrow will be better

And when winter settles at our door

We simply tell ourselves that summer will return

And it’s easier to live this way

Day after day

We see how we are living fleeting moments

The air is too heavy to breathe

When we depend solely on our prayers

So I savour every moment that I am alive

Before my world disappears into darkness

Kat, Kat, Kat,

I apologize because I've been reviewing this poem for the last hour, and though I like it alot I thought some parts of it were somewhat disconnected thoughts that didn't flow very well. I have spent the last hour tyring to suggest some fixes but in the process actually ended up re-writing it. Take what you want from it, or ignore it completely, but please don't hate me for it. It turned out slightly darker than yours, that wasn't by design just ended up there.

We spend today planning tomorrow
Yesterday is gone and today feels borrrowed.
We spend so much time working til our palms bleed
Tomorrow's not guaranteed so what's the need?
We should arise each day as if it were our last
As near death has courted us in the past.
The flame within our hearts has nearly gone dark
When stormy weather blows over our pathetic little spark.
And when winter settles outside our door
And strangles, mocks us, and chills us to the core
We beckon next summer's warm return
Loathing day after day wanting winter to burn
And in these living, fleeting moments of need
We drop our defenses and pray and plead
So savor every moment in each and every day
Cause when death is done with me...
He'll be coming back your way.

Much LOVE!

I love this poem Kat, but it was so sad. When come across this kind of thing in people's lives, especially friend's, I can't help but want to provide some kind of comfort to them.

So, if you don't mind, I've written a poem in response to this one. I hope you like it. :)

Yes that's how we should live, each day as our last. They grow short with each new day.

Very nice write.
