A poem for Richard Ramirez

I’m scared of life

I fear the rising sun

Thankful for the sweet night

Cringing at day break

I’ve killed before with bloodlust

And reaped the consequences

Now I sit in this cell and wait

For my end to take me away

I’ve caused pain, I’ve felt pain

But I don’t know how to banish it

No tears soak my cheeks

I feel neither guilt nor shame

I know I am an evil thing

And I can do nothing to change

Good topic. I'm a serial killer buff myself, having just finished a book about them and I can say that he was one of the scariest in history. My critique: more cognitive dissonance, more imagery. Killed before with bloodlust and other such lines are a little direct. Look at Plath, look at Wallace Stevens. I think it's too straightforward. Spice up the language and examine the sensations he must have felt. Some criminals aren't such humble, quiet creatures.
