If Only

If Only

A Poem by Kat-Marie Berti
"

A little something I wrote back when I was in College (I modified it a bit)

"

So tired of people who say they care

Who use me, ruin me, turn me inside out

So sick of eyes that stare from a distance

Taking only what they want

Never giving me what I need

So angry with life, with all the hate that lives

The souls with no purpose, the days spent crying

So fed up with wastes of time

Of never having enough love

Of men who rob me of everything I have

Naked buildings covered in snow

So bored with everything to do with school

Teachers who just don’t give a damn

Classes spent in complete silence

Hours thrown away into the roaring wind

When I could have been across the sea

Far away from it all

Learning things I want to know

Spending my time the way I want

I could have been dancing atop grassy hills

Eating berries from midnight till dawn

Laughing my heart out with joy

Living life the way I truly need

Another breathtaking excursion into the chaotic mix of emotion that so often spins us in circles; moreso perhaps in our younger years, when we are still feeling our way along in a strange new world but even in the later years when circumstances can cast us from the twilight float in a warm lagoon, into the churning blasts of an icy North sea, with only a moment's notice.
Well done.

It reads much like someone perhaps away from home for the first time experiencing college for the first time. Going through the pain of love in such an impressionable time as those early twenty when we become adults in world that is not always pretty.

Very powerful. It gives me the mental picture of a tormented teenager...
