The Noble Gilbert'sA Story by Kat-Marie BertiThe Noble Gilbert’s It is the year 1495 AD, conquest of the Ottoman Empire and ruling of the Persian’s. My father is king over the East and my two sisters are married to Turkish Prince Lords. My older brother is banished after he tried to marry the Slavic princess Rubella. She is a great enemy of ours, a traitor. My younger brother is too busy with his chariot races and bear hunts to care much about women. He is only 14. But I am 16 and of age to be betrothed to a husband. Already ten princes have sent requests from all over the East, begging for my father to let them marry me. But my father wants only the greatest prince, Kardar of the Province of Lausanne, son of the king of Saxons. He wants an alliance with the Germanics, but we are not sure if they will grant it. After years of war, it is always hard to follow a peace treaty. I have met this prince only once when I was younger. He was both arrogant and prideful, sitting at a table surrounded by his admirers, showing off his gold rings and ruby embellished crown. I thought him a snob and did not even speak to him. And now my father wants me to marry him? It is a laughable joke. I am better off with the porky prince of Morkovitch. At least he was kind and with a good heart, thought he did eat a trifle bit too much.
