The Heart

The heart learns many lessons

A lifetime of broken collections

All packed up in a lovely box

Stacked up in the musty attic

 

The heart yearns to understand

To find out all those mysteries

Uncover the hidden, show the truth

Discover the forbidden, to taste life

 

The heart is foolish, it knows it well

It was split in half more than once

Smashed to the ground a few times

Ground up to dust, blown off by the wind

 

But the heart is also enduring

It lasts throughout a lifetime

Succumbs through pain and hardships

And is always there to keep us living

Kat-Marie,
You do a fantastic job of solidifying some very abstract concepts in this poem. Ideas like love and heart can easily lend themselves to cliches and trite writing but you remain original and stanza 3...wow. It is by far may favorite and definitely the heart (no pun intended) of this piece. I also like embedded rhyme of hidden and forbidden in lines 3 and 4 of stanza 2. Great job overall!

It's so true. My heart's been crushed over & over & over & it always manages to stay alive. And it does lead me to do STUPID things. =[ This was very well written & captured the subject beaufitully. It wasn't spastic or off topic at all. The words in my head while reading it kept time perfectly. No complaints here ^^.
