My WorthA Poem by 5hade5layerIf you could see emotional scarsThe salt from my tears sting my back full of stabs As I lie in a puddle of my fears and “would-have”s She says it’s my fault; I should’ve kept tabs On how many times she’s cut my hopes into halves. “I’ve fooled you twice, so shame on you” Oh, more than twice-it’s nothing new Her backstabbing is something I’ve gotten quite used to; I had thought a nice hug has been long overdue “An investment” is the best compliment I’ll get from her, Stock bought and raised by a pro investor. Feed me books to eat for breakfast lunch, and dinner Mold me to be the perfect doc or lawyer. “Call if you need me, there’s some books in the fridge” How about some love, even if it’s just a smidge? Cuz every single time I try to build a bridge, You burn it, never failing to make me cringe. Now my back is full of bullet holes and carvings Or are they just her words that leave seared markings? It’s hard to tell since they feel the same Because I am just as human; I’ve got nerves and a brain I’ll always feel the pain. She forgets, but I am not just money to exchange. © 2017 5hade5layer |
