Life

Life

A Poem by Faust

They say you are an all powerful being.
The beginning and the end.
The good and the evil.
The poor and the wealthy.
The hungry and the fortunate.
They say you are the mother to all children.
We walk your soils, we drink your water, we build from your land.
They say...you are life.
And I have lived this life in worry and fear and confusion.
While many others may live in peace and contentment.
Are you just picking favorites?
They say good will come to those who wait.
But I've waited for as long as I am able.
They say you shouldn't expect good if you don't do good.
But I do try to do good.
I do good by my family, by my friends, by my peers.
And I try to live up to their expectations.
But I'm telling you, life, their expectations are like false hope.
I can't do the things they want me to do or be the person they want me to be.
But, life, I am willing to stand by the things I say and the thoughts that I create.
Because that is what makes me who I am.
So, life, you can throw your ways at me.
You can throw your rules my way.
But I have built my own life since the one I have been given was made up of nothing but pain and regret.
