Your Opinion Or Mine?A Story by Loretta EdwardsYour Opinion Or Mine?
History tells a story, but we were not there, so how do we know that the author is ‘telling it like it is’? There are so many ways to tell a story and every author has an opinion and his prejudices which cloud the facts and the way they are interpreted, even when trying to present an honest account.. Take the Bible and the stories about the life of Jesus for instance. The records were written long after the people involved were dead. The stories were written, then copied over and over, which is just asking for mistakes of adding a word or omitting a few. Then came the translations from language to language, and you know how words have different meanings, so here again we have a wide area for error. Is it any wonder that some people question and doubt the complete truth of what is written? I think that is great! It is my belief that anything true can stand up to questions and scrutiny. The more you question the better your understanding becomes and the firmer the foundation of your faith and trust grows. I’ve heard some people say that they believe that Jesus was a real man, who lived an unusual life, but they can’t believe that He did everything attributed to Him. Like Daniel Boone who, ”kilt him a bear when he was only 3.’ That maybe Jesus is a legend. A legend that grew all out of proportion until the facts became fancy. I believe that the Spiritual man can do all things. You hear from the pulpit that Jesus was God incarnated. That has a Lot of flaws in my opinion. The first flaw is to accuse our Father of needing a blood sacrifice before He could forgive His own children of their sins. If you believe that you don’t know the Father at all. The second flaw is to believe that God become human, died on the cross so that His blood could become a sacrifice to God Himself is ludicrous. I am sure that the blood flowing through the veins a healthy Jesus was just as important to God as when it flowed from the cross. Third, when Jesus said, “I and the Father are one,” He was not claiming that He, Jesus, was God. In my opinion he was claiming His dependence on God for His very life. Others have read where Jesus walked on water and calmed the storms and decided that maybe He was an illusionist or maybe a magician, like the famed Merlin. He could make loves and fishes appear to be more then they were, the crooked limb appear straight. I think that Jesus understood and believed that when God created this earth He gave man dominion over all the earth and everything in it. Some can’t accept that Jesus healed all who came to Him. That perhaps, He was a bit of a charlatan, who maybe hired people to pretend to be sick or disabled, then have a miraculous recovery. I say that Jesus didn’t see a sick body. He saw the perfection that God created and brought the thought of the sick up to His spiritual level. There was a movie portraying Jesus as homosexual. In today’s society you can understand how some people could get an idea like that. He was in the company of 12 other men at all times, and He loved them dearly. However, Jesus loved all of His brothers and sisters. He was well aware that we are all God’s children. Was He the leader of a cult? He had a large following. Some supported His group. He didn’t have a home of His own, yet He was invited for meals and lodging every place He traveled. The difference here is: A cult leader demands everything for himself. His orders must be obeyed instantly, without question. Worse, his members fall sick and are unhappy. The opposite is: Jesus never asked for a hand-out. People were honored to have Him as a guest. He encouraged questions. He gave a lot more then He received and left everyone healthier, and happier then He found them. Is it possible that Jesus was an alien from another planet? Or a time traveler from the future? I seriously doubt it. But, if that were true would it make His message obsolete or untrue? There is a rumor that Jesus married and had a son of His own. He would have been a marvelous dad and a wonderful husband. Yet, I don’t see how He could have time for a romance as busy as the sick kept Him. He didn’t have time for Himself let alone a family. Like I said, everyone has an opinion. To be brutally honest we have no absolute proof that Jesus ever existed. I’ll shock you by saying, “Frankly, I don’t care.” Was there anything said, that was attributed to Jesus, that wasn’t intelligent, spiritual and loving? I have not the slighted doubt that Jesus lived on the earth and gave us a glimpse of what heaven on earth should be. He showed us what a man infused with the Christ can accomplish; heal the sick, give sight to the blind, forgive sin, and defy death, because God did not create these conditions. What is more, Jesus expects us to do the same. This is my opinion. What is yours?
