What Is God?

What Is God?

A Story by Loretta Edwards

What Is God’s Image?

We all know that every human was created in the Image and likeness of God. Knowing this, shouldn’t we know what that image is? Standing in front of a mirror, isn’t it only logical to assume that the image reflected in the mirror is also the image of our Creator? Therefore, we conclude that God is a huge, beautiful, intelligent, human looking, “person”, living in the sky, with wondrous and awesome powers: like the Greek gods on Mount Olympus. The gods that the Greeks and Romans believed in, worshiped and feared; that used their powers for good and evil, and we now call mythology? Perhaps we should rethink our analogy of our God?

In the first chapter of Genesis God created the universe and all that is in it, and it was good. Chapter I:26 is the sixth and last working day. This is the day that He created His children and gave them dominion over all that was made. Verses:29-30 Makes it plain that God intended that the herb bearing seed and the fruit of the trees were the food that would keep us healthy and happy. To every beast of the field and fowl of the air He gave green herbs for meat. The animals were not formed to hunt each other for food, as we expect them to do today. This is how later the Bible promises that the lion and the lamb will lay down together as God intended. God gave them kind and loving natures, man has made them vicious and cruel.

I think chapter 2:4-5 explains it nicely. 4: These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens. 5: AND EVERY PLANT OF THE FIELD BEFORE IT WAS IN THE EARTH, AND EVERY HERB OF THE FIELD BEFORE IT GREW: FOR THE LORD GOD HAD NOT CAUSED IT TO RAIN UPON THE EARTH AND THERE WAS NOT A MAN TO TILL THE GROUND.

Now keep in mind that the male and female have already been created. This tells me two things. First that the children of God were not created to be slaves to the earth. More important, I believe the whole of creation was completely Spiritual: not material; not made with matter. That the male and female are not the body that we see. We are held in the Mind of God as a perfectly formed thought; idea; image.

According to the dictionary image means: a representation of a person or thing, drawn, painted etc. A mental picture of something, idea, impression. The public conception of a person, product etc., often created by publicity.

What about Adam of the dust of the earth? And the Eve of Adam’s rib? We have always been told they are the first humans, and because they sinned we must suffer. Because we have always believed, does that make it fact? I believe the story of Eden is an allegory. Adam is A-dam blocking man from God and the real man of God’s creation. Eve represents the darkened thought before the dawn of understanding. The church picked up on the Eden story as an easy explanation of the beginning that people wouldn’t question. But, we should question and think for ourselves.

God is Spirit and although Spirit has no actual form; IT forms all forms. We are thoughts, Spirit, covered in flesh. You may think that my ideas are ridiculous and they may be. Don’t just dismiss them. And don’t accept them without investigation. Read Chapter 1 and Chapter 2:1-5 and find your truth, whatever it is.
