Idolatry Is Alive And Well

A Story by Loretta Edwards

Idolatry Is Alive And Well

As the title states idolatry is thriving. Are you assuming the possibility that in some isolated, uneducated part of the world, where people don’t know any better, maybe, they still worship idols? Wrong. I am claiming that right here in America, there is more idol worship than ever before. Worse, it is being taught in our churches!

Are you shocked? You don’t believe me? You don’t worship at the feet of any wooden, iron or golden idol in your church? Of course not! It is more subtle that that. It isn’t a statue. An idol doesn’t need to be seen to be worshiped. It is an idea held over from ancient superstitions, planted in your mind. By people that you trust and assume they are authorized to teach the truth. It is a universal belief accepted without opposition, contradiction, disagreement, debate or logical thought. We go to church to learn about God. Therefore we believe what we are taught, even if it is wrong.

We are taught that he has power. We respect the power he wields over us and regard him in fear, because of that evil power which we feel helpless to fight. At the same time, we are ashamed to admit, we admire his rude, brash, and impudent opposition to Almighty God. That takes a lot of nerve.

You have probably deduced that I am talking about Satan, the prince of darkness, the devil. Am I alone believing that he is nothing more than an error in thought? Don’t you have doubts about his existence?

I am not insulting you by suggesting that you have actually bowed down to Satan. But, haven’t you done something your conscience told you was wrong? And your excuse was, “The devil made me do it.” Most people overreact to this so-called power. Haven’t you wondered how Satan became so powerful?

How can we say we believe in One Almighty God; who in wisdom, harmony, peace and love created everything and everything was good, when in the very next breath we claim Satan is a power opposing God?

Either God is All or God is nothing. For Satan to have the power to oppose God it would mean God does not have All Power. I have many reasons to believe Satan, by any other name, is a myth, an error in thought, a lie told over and over, a misunderstanding. Let me explain. You are under no obligation to agree. However, you might find it worth considering.

When God fills all time and all space, where is there an opposite?

When God created All Good, was Satan one of the good creations? Did Satan create himself and his power? Than is Satan a creator on a level with God?

If Satan was an angel fallen from heaven for disobedience, wouldn’t God first have stripped him of all angel power and authority? Where and how did Satan amass his awesome power?

I recently read in a religious book, “God and Jesus are fighting for us against the evil, and they are trying their best to protect us.”

That anything could stand against God is idolatry thinking, and a slap to the face of God! There are three glaring wrong statements in that one short sentence. Almighty God “Fighting?” What does He have to fear? Why would God have to fight? Against what evil? An evil that God and Jesus together can’t conquer? “Trying”? What could occur that would be beyond the capacity to achieve a successful outcome? What do they need to protect us from?

Evil, sin, sickness and yes, even death were never created, they are all man’s superstitious misunderstanding of God’s Goodness and Unconditional Love.

Who or what else is a creator? We destroy our idol worship of Satan, by knowing without a shadow of doubt, that Satan, sin, sickness, and death are unknown to God because He did not create them.

Is mankind plagued by a sinister power that rivals omnipotent God? No, Satan only has the power that you willing give to him.
