Satan Was Not Created

A Story by Loretta Edwards

Satan Was Not Created

“The more we dwell on the enemy’s lies, the more garbage we will willingly allow him to dump into our minds.” This is a quote from the book of a very popular and positive thinking preacher. It is good advice, as far as it goes, and very true. One positive thought goes a long way in making your life better. He, I am sure, has helped many people over the rough road of life. I have nothing but respect for the man. Although, I do have a few questions.

When God finished creating everything, He looked around and He was pleased. He pronounced it all “Good”. I have to ask, “Who is this enemy whose lies are so convincing? I assume it must be Satan, the devil, the master of deception, the father of all lies? If I am right, my next question is, “Does this make Satan a creator also? Did Satan create himself and all the ills that the flesh is heir to? Then how? If not God, who? Is Satan’s power equal to God’s? Or did our heavenly Father create Satan and award him the power to tempt and torment the children that He loves? Is Satan among the Good that God created? Another possibility is that God created Satan so we would have something to blame our troubles on? I can’t buy any of these explanations.

I’m going to ask you to forget everything that you have read in the Bible, been taught about Adam, Eve, original sin and punishment, and Satan as a power opposed to God, and most everything that you believe, just for a moment. Think logically about this____

Most people believe that evil is the presence of something. If, so what? Is Satan an angel that fell from heaven? Wouldn’t an intelligent God strip him of all angel powers and privileges before sending him away? Jesus was tempted. By what? Another person? An entity? A snake? A thought? It talked to him. It said it only wanted the best for him. Fame, riches, a life of ease with servants to supply his every wish. All that Satan wanted was for Jesus to acknowledge him. Jesus wouldn’t because He knew the world has only fleeting pleasures to offer. Get out of my sight and out of my mind, is all Jesus had to say. Wasn’t Jesus arguing with his own thoughts? He was ready to start His ministry and don’t you think that He was wondering if He would be the man God wanted Him to be?

Is Satan one of the good things that God created? Did God create Satan good and he turned on his maker with as much power or more? Is God now afraid of Satan? Where and how did Satan accumulate any power if not from God? Would God grant power to something that He will eventually have to fight? Foolish questions? Then think of logical answers.

Sin is self-inflected, nonsense, error (belief in a lie or a false sense of things) ignorant beliefs, and mistakes. All originate from man’s own fears. Either deliberately or by default, we are exactly where we want to be in life. The power is in Christ. The pattern is Jesus.

What God did not create does not exist and that includes Satan as a reality and all the evils he represents: sin, error, suffering, disease and death and anything else that makes us unhappy.

To quote another preacher, “We are mercifully led to learn, that in all of infinity there is, in divine reality, nothing but good because God is infinite good.”  There isn’t room for God and anything unlike God or opposed to God. Either God is All or nothing.

Thank you. I’ve asked the questions. Now you can go back to what you believe.
