Sickness And HealthA Story by Loretta EdwardsSickness And Health
Which would you rather have, sickness or health? Does sickness appeal to you? Does this sound like a foolish question? I can’t imagine anyone choosing to be sick when they can be hale and hardy. Yet, it almost seems like some people accept sickness like an old friend. Granted it seems like we don’t have much choice in the matter. Everyone, at some time or another has been under the weather or had a very serious illness or surgery or disease or been hurt. How can we argue with the facts? Accidents and illness are a fact of life and we have to live with “the cards we are dealt.” As a matter of fact sickness is not a necessary evil. Because we agree it is evil, we can agree that God never created it. It is not a part of God, nor is it sent from God as a punishment or to get your attention. The God who created the Universe did not create sickness and health as equals to do battle eternally. Evil, as a disease, is nothing more than a belief. A mistaken conclusion that there is a power apart from God called evil, or the devil, or Satan who can invade our bodies. Think about this: God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. If, God did invent sin, sickness and death; there would be no way to un-create these evils. What God creates last forever, this evil would follow us into heaven and would never end. Sickness and health would do battle everlastingly; with disease just as likely to win over health. Not a pleasant thought is it? Man is neither self-made nor made by mortals. God created man, the first time and all times. Therefore, man is not dominated by any opposing power. Faith healing begins with a sick body, begging for God’s mercy. With doubt about God’s being ready (the time may not be right) willing (I’ve sinned and need punishment) or able (this condition may be beyond His ability.) We should begin with Perfect God and man in His image and likeness: Spirit, not flesh and blood and bones. This is the scientific method that Jesus used. Instant, complete and permanent healing. Whatever the problem is it is of human origin and perpetuated by human thought. In Reality there is only health. So why bother with doctors and medicine which can not improve on God’s perfection. If, God made you sick then only God-not doctors nor medicine-could heal you. If God didn’t cause your sickness why give it reality by treating it? Now don’t misunderstand. I am not putting down anyone who is suffering from sickness right now. The race consciousness is very compelling. When you are sick, you know that you are sick. You don’t appreciate someone telling you that it is unnecessary, or that it is all in your mind: imaginary. We see advertisements on TV every day for medicines that cure every ailment known to man. If we have a headache, take a pill. For a painful back, rub some ointment on it. Pop a pill for an upset stomach, for a good nights sleep, nerves, dry skin, weight loss, weight gain, the list goes on and on. It isn’t your fault that you have seduced by the human condition. Very few of us can go against the tide of human opinion. However, there is no way that you could travel by jet until Orville and Wilber Wright defied the accepted knowledge of their day to prove that heavier then air machines can fly. And look at how far air travel has evolved in the following years. You can’t be expected to refuse illness until you understand that not only is it possible but it is the Christian thing to do. Have the courage of your convictions. Maybe you will be the one who will blaze the way to a new and better way of life. Be the first to claim your health. When others see your healing they will want to use the same method and you can help them understand that it is God’s will that all are healthy and happy.
