Science Verses Religion

Science Verses Religion

When I was growing up science and religion were at odds. Maybe the better way to say how they felt about each other would be antagonistic.

Science said the “Big Bang” created the earth. The big bang gave earth primal ooze out of which, after millions of years, the first life crawled out. After life ‘randomly’ appeared ‘it’ evolved. Finally monkeys learned to co-operate with one another. They banded together for protection, took care of their young, and you might even say they formed families. The smartest of these monkeys went off by themselves and, according to science, evolved into men.

If you had any religious training, there is no way that you would agree with any of the above. The Bible plainly states how man was created. You were taught in Sunday School about Adam and Eve. You know how God took the dust of the ground, created man, breathed on him and man became a living soul. No monkey here! A man was formed a man! There in no room for debate!

We could agree with the Big Bang theory,…somewhat. The Bible does say it took six days to create completely. That includes heaven and earth, animals, and man, but it doesn’t tell us if the days are like our 24 hour days or if a day was millions of years for each day. I saw a tee shirt that summed it up nicely. It read:

I believe in the Big Bang theory.

God said, “Let there be” and

BANG

There it was!

Over the years science has evolved. Science has admitted there is an “Intelligence” that created the universe and holds it true to certain laws. It was the law of the movement of the planets that allowed science to put a man on the moon. That was a miraculous feat for science! However, weren’t they using God’s Law?

Over the years religion has evolved also. Adam and Eve have been recognized as an allegory. Leaders have reexamined the idea that God used dust to make man. Dust equals dirt. God can do better then that! Even star dust doesn’t come up to God’s standard. God is Spirit. God fills all time and all space. It is reasonable to conclude God used what was available to create man: Spirit. Man is a spiritual being!

Ask a Quantum Physicist how the world became. He will tell you, “Through Energy.” OK that sounds good. Explain energy to me.  He will explain, “Energy always has been; always will be; can’t be depleted or destroyed; moving into form and through form; always vibrating; always active.

Ask any Theologian how the world was created. His answer will be as quick and decisive as the Physicist. “God created the world.” I can believe that. Explain God to me. “Everything that has ever been made was made by God. God has always been and will always be. God can’t be depleted or destroyed. God can never be less then God!”

The same description; different terminology.

Science and religion have more in common now then they have ever had before. Probably there are people on both sides of the issue that don’t realize how similar their beliefs have become.

For instance-Medical Science has come to understand how the sick thoughts, fear thoughts, and stress thoughts are manifested on the body. A physician sometimes writes a prescription for a placebo (a sugar pill that actually has no medicine in it.) Just taking the pill relieves the fear and the patient recovers. Proving that the patient's mind controls his health.

Maybe the doctor is not aware that the church has preached, for years,  that hate does the hater more damage then the hated. Both agree the mind controls the body.

Science has discovered the atom, so tiny it can only be seen with a powerful microscope. With the atom, science made the atomic bomb and destroyed two cities in Japan and forever changed the way man lives. There are even smaller particles called protons and electrons. These protons and electrons are circulating the atom like planets circle the earth. These protons and electrons are never resting: they are whirling, vibrating, bits of energy. Everything we call matter science calls energy. Einstein gave us the E=MC2   symbol. The MC2: means everything we see. The E: means everything is energy which makes what we see*

Religion has discovered that God is Not a large, vindictive man on a golden throne, looking down on us, just waiting for a reason to strike us down with illness or some form of punishment. God is our Spiritual-Father-Mother who watches over us with unconditional Love. This spirit forms all we see through our thoughts and feelings. Negative thoughts give us negative results. Keep our thoughts centered on God’s good and no harm or unhappiness can penetrate this shield of protection.*

*In other easy to understand words :We control our world with our thoughts!

I don’t suppose Science and Religion are ready to form a partnership as yet. However, they are in agreement on many levels of thought. There is a creator of the universe. Energy or God. The universe is ruled by dependable Law. The universe is not solid form; it is pulsating, vibration; never inactive or motionless. On this we can be of the same opinion.

The machine I am using to write this is a solid piece of equipment. At least to my sight it is. Yet, we are learning it is not solid at all. The atoms that make up the thing that I see, the thing that I am using, are moving, vibrating, whirling bits of energy. If I could grasp this fact, that nothing I see is solid, everything I see is vibration held together by my thought, matter in all its forms would disappear and in its place the spiritual reality would appear in all its glory.

Taken from “The Secret Of The Ages” by Robert Collier we find: Energy called protons and electrons, are without hardness, without density, without solidity, without even positive actuality. In short, they are vortices in the ether-whirling bits of energy-dynamic, never static, pulsating with life, but the life is spiritual! As one eminent British scientist put it--”Science now explains matter by explaining it away!”

Max Planck, the father of quantum theory, in 1944, wrote this. “All matter originates and exists only by the virtue of a force…We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Mind.” Aren’t these words we would use to explain God?

Feeling is the language that “speaks” to God. Feel as though your goal is accomplished and your prayer is already answered.

“Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it.”  Earnest Holmes founder of Science of Mind

“It has been said, and truly, that Christianity must be Science, and Science must be Christianity, else one or the other is false and useless; but neither is unimportant or untrue, and they are alike in demonstration.” “The everlasting I Am is not bounded nor compressed within the narrow limits of physical humanity, nor can He be understood aright through mortal concepts The precise form of God must be of small importance in comparison with the sublime question, What is infinite Mind or divine Love?" Mary Baker Eddy founder of Christian Science.

“The outer is but the expression of the image held within.” from The Life And Teaching Of The Masters Of The Far East.

Thoughts are things. Nothing is what it seems. This is how close Science and Religion have become. Perhaps someday they will merge and humanly will be the more spiritual because of the union?
