A Bed In HellA Story by Loretta EdwardsA Bed In Hell “If I make my bed in hell, thou art with me “ When I was new in religion and looking for reasonable answers and seeking hidden and deeper meanings in Scripture, I wondered what message this passage had for me. Then I was asked by a friend to explain it to them. I gave a completely ignorant human interpretation. I am ashamed to say that I told them, “God is in heaven. God rules the heavens and the devil rules the earth. Once you enter hell, you stay there.” My answer now would be quite different. I believe there is One God: a Creator that rules all time and all space. Where would you go to hide from God? Hell? NO! For two good reasons. One….Everywhere God is abounds with light and beauty and love, so that include any space named hell. Two…There is only One Power that rules the complete universe: God. God does not share with nor does He fight against any other power or evil entity for control of the cosmos. There is no devil, Satan, or evil in any form, hell included, to fight. Neither can the sinner enjoy and find pleasure in the false suggestions of human sins. Ask me the question again. My answer now-maybe I’ll understand it better with more thoughtful study-is this. Humanity does not know God! They look in the mirror and think that they see the image of God. Because they experience rage, jealousy, fear, hate, then God must feel these emotions also, only more forcefully. God is love, therefore they feel love. Only their love is constantly changing, turns cold, indifferent, sometimes turns to hate. They can’t understand an unconditional forever love. Because humans think in opposites they think every good is followed by a worse bad; laugh today and you will cry tomorrow. They assume that they are cursed and are born to suffer. The devil will tempt them into hell. Humanity is dreadfully wrong. God is the only creator. Would you accuse God of deliberately creating evil? Did God’s good creation turn on Him? And become a power to fear? Did evil create itself? God is Spirit not human. He has no knowledge of anything or any thing that He did not create. Angels are messengers from God, they obey without question. When God was ready for children, He created us with a conscience to guide us, to teach us right from wrong and keep us happy. He also gave us free will. He has angels to obey. He wanted children to love him of their own free will, not because they are forced to, because they want to. Free will is a big responsibility. Some became confused and made mistakes and their conscience hurt and they thought they should be punished. They forgot they are spirit and acted more and more human, and if they are human they need a reason for mistakes so they conjured a devil. They warned their children to beware of this evil and humanity took on pain, disease, fear, poverty, drunkenness, and sins of all kinds. If His children want to use their free will to torture themselves and make their bed in hell,-well-that is what free will is and God will allow it. He will stay with them until they realize this suffering is not created by God; is nonexistent and that they will wake up in the loving arms of their Mother-Father-God. I really don’t know exactly why we are human and living on earth. This much I am sure of. God is Spirit. He has numbered the hairs on your head. Would that same God harm the body beneath the counted hairs? Don’t blame God for any scary or painful condition or situation you are in. It is the boogey man of your childhood and God is there to calm your fears and dry your tears and show you that it is only a figment of your imagination. It isn’t reality and you have nothing, no thing to fear, God is here. He isn’t worried about your welfare because shadows don’t hurt. 690 words Loretta Ellen Edwards © 2017 Loretta Edwards |
