Happy Easter! The window is open, the sun is shining, and the birds are singing their cheerful songs. A sign of many good things to come? Right? Let’s say, Yes. Why not? We celebrate Easter. It makes a great holiday. It gives us an excuse to dress up in our best finery, and reminds us that spring is here. We can begin making plans for the coming summer. But, there is no real understanding about-Why?-we celebrate Easter. We give no real thought or meaning to what the event stands for. We are content to sit in church, let the minister paint a picture of the events, sing a few uplifting songs. After which we go home to our traditional ham dinner, probably with family, maybe a few friends, watch some TV. Then we forget Easter until this time next year. How sad! How very sad! A Super Bowl Game generates more thought and a lot more excitement. You plan what to serve at the bowl party, who to invite. Easter has become your special once a year ritual and nothing more. The event that rocked the world deserves better. The tragedy of the ages is - Humanity has left Jesus hanging on the cross. We have not allowed Him to leave the crucifixion scene. Our understanding of the Master’s life ends there. We forget that wasn’t the end of the story, only the beginning. Now, let’s hear the rest of the story. Do you really think that God sent Jesus to suffer and die in such a horrible manner? It is my opinion that idea is terribly wrong. God sent His intelligent, spiritual son to teach the rest of His foolish, wayward children what can be accomplished when you trust the Father. Jesus was becoming so in tune with the Christ that he was losing his human identity, and would soon ascend, leaving the earth, with his mission incomplete. Before that happened, Jesus elected the way of the cross. Not because God ordained it! Because Jesus wanted humanity to see and know death is nothing to be feared, Jesus could have called the whole thing off with God’s blessing. Did Jesus suffer? Jesus cured every condition, disease, and pain that man could imagine. This is not in the least to make light of, or belittle the selfless act that Jesus did for us. I sincerely doubt that he suffered the pain we would feel if we were nailed to the cross. He had already overcome pain. Now, he was ready to tackle the last enemy to be faced. Jesus suffered a worse pain looking out over the crowed, knowing the people he loved and came to teach, had no clue of who he was or what his message meant. That must have hurt more than mere nails. The pain in his heart outweighed any pain inflicted on his physical body. Death is every bit as real to our modern civilization as it was to the uneducated masses that witnessed the historical event. If we could realize, for even a moment, the Spiritual Reality presented to the world on that fateful day, we could never again believe the illusion of death. Jesus, the man is living still. The Christ, that Jesus represents, can never be harmed and is in full power and control yesterday, today, and forever. The human race does not see, nor does it want to learn, of the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection. It is the resurrection that we celebrate on Easter. The victorious life that has overcome death. Easter is the time to wake from the deep rooted fear of death to the bright, beautiful, sunny morning of understanding. Jesus treated death as a mistake. Or an error to be erased. He corrected many mistakes in his short ministry. Jesus loved Lazarus, yet when he was called to heal his best friend he did not hurry. When Jesus finally arrived Lazarus’s funeral was over and he had been in his grave for three whole days. Can you imagine the state of that dead body? This fact did not faze Jesus in the least. He went out to the grave site and called for Lazarus to come out. And Lazarus did! A certain ruler said, “My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.” Jesus went and she arose. Also a widow following her son’s casket was blessed when Jesus restored her son. There were probably more errors erased that were not recorded. However, these three prove the miracle of life after death was not reserved for Jesus only. The specter of the Grim-Reaper held no more fear for our Savior than the monster in the closet or the bogy man under the bed for an adult male. Jesus loved his brothers and sisters so much that he went willingly to the cross. He wanted us all to know that death is a delusion, an error, the grave is a misapprehension. Jesus took the only way he could to show us that there is no death in Life. The human body may return to dust, but man is not a body. Mortal mind accepts the mistaken concept of life and death, but the True idea is gained from the immortal side. Give up your belief in perishable life and unhappiness. The mortal and material return to dust, and the immortal is revealed. Jesus returned to teach his disciples, in a body much like the one that he left earth in. This new body could be seen and heard, but it was not solid. Jesus appeared in a locked room. He was no longer subject to the rules of earth. He has shed his mortal body for the Spiritual Reality of what man is. A spiritual body in the image and likeness of God. God is Spirit, His likeness must also be Spirit. Death is not the end, but the beginning of something wonderful. But don’t wait for death to experience the joy of living spiritually. Saint John 8:51 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.” Now, that is a promise you can live with,
