Mysterious Ways

A Story by Loretta Edwards

Mysterious Ways

I love a good mystery story. One that gives the characters deep emotional problems and secrets that make them mysterious and frightening, with a plot that is unpredictable and hard to solve. But in the end, I expect the author to explain the motive behind the crime.

A mystery is something that we don’t know the answer to. I am amazed at the progress science has made in unlocking the secrets in nature. The discovery of DNA has changed the human concept of life. Although scientists must have a life to start a new life, they have found several ways to do this. When a successful invitro (test tube) baby was born naturally and lived, science opened a whole new era of knowledge and experiments. Remember Dolly the cloned (producing an exact duplicate asexually) sheep? Already science is infusing human genes into rabbits and pigs, for our own good of course. Pig hearts can then be used for human transplant. Who knows how far we might go? Maybe we will reinvent humanity and like the Roman myth we will create our own centaur (half man, half horse) or some other monstrosity when a scientific experiment goes awry? Science is wonderful, but they are still using human theories and working with matter.

The mystery I am concerned with is what does this quote from the Bible mean? “God moves in mysteries ways.” A mystery may apply to something beyond human understanding. I’ve read this, I’ve heard it quoted from the pulpit, but I haven’t had it explained. It almost sounds like it is a secret, something we have no right to know. So we don’t need to concern ourselves with it. We ignore it and go on about our busy life.

On the other hand, a mystery exists to be investigated, examined thoroughly until you come to a satisfactory conclusion. To solve a mystery of    any kind, you must first gather the facts. What do we know?

1 God is Spirit-not body, not a human

1 God is Good-no imperfection in perfection, no evil in thought or action

3 God created All-not necessarily the way that we see it or believe it to be

4 God knows Reality-what we consider mysterious is natural and normal in     God’s kingdom

5 God is Law-spiritual law was established that protects the children God        created. The laws are orderly, stable, fair and beneficial. They are also          unchanging and permanent-nothing like the foolish, unenforceable, human rules that benefit the few and harm the many.

In Mt 13:11 Jesus tells His disciples that they can know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but not them. Who is ‘them’? Why would God reveal to some and not to all?

‘Them’ are the ones so faithful to their religion, with the beautiful ritualistic ceremony’s and man-made rites, that they have closed their minds to spiritual truth. The apostles had rejected the old superstitious beliefs and were listening, understanding, and living the spiritual Truth that Jesus came to teach.

Jesus also said that we should live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God Mt 4:4. We don’t!

I think that I have found enough clues to follow. It boils down to this:       Humans are sleep walking counterfeits.

This is what I understand from the quote “God moves in mysterious ways”. I think that I have solved the mystery to my satisfaction. Have you come to a conclusion that you feel is right too?
