A Poet's StruggleA Poem by Jonathan MatthewsA poem I came up with when I couldn't come up with one.
I try to think of something deep, profound,
Like all the poets of the ages; I let loose my mind, my thoughts unbound, But nothing's written on these blank pages. I attempt to write what's in my soul, But all that's there, or so it seems, Is an empty wasteland, there is no goal, Just a series of opaque dreams. In a massive struggle 'gainst my mind Words spew forth from my pen's tip. Indeed, a chain of words unwinds, But in the end, it's just a gyp. In resign I start once more To attempt some form of lofty verse. Impending failure seems in store For any lines that I rehearse. Instead, however, I succeed in finding Some subject of a poems worth. In shock I begin unwinding The tale of a poem's birth. © 2010 Jonathan Matthews |
