Chapter 35

The aftermath of Angel's attack on the Sacred Palace.

Ever since Angel's attack on the Sacred Palace, life had changed drastically for Rene and everyone around her. However, there were also many things that had remained the same. Like school.

Ralph sighed as he looked at his new class schedule. It was the last six weeks of the school year and for every new six weeks, everyone got a new schedule based on what they had picked the year before. It was because of this that Ralph and Daniel now had first period gym, and seventh period English together, as well as fourth period Algebra II and lunch.

Ralph and Daniel hadn't spoken much during first period, so when they arrived in Algebra, they took their regular seats at the back.

"Ok, class,"the teacher said,"As you know, it is the beginning of a new six weeks, so, as I call your name, please move to your temporary assigned seat."

Ralph sighed. Every six weeks, their teacher would give them a seating chart for one week. It was so they could all get to know any new students that may have arrived in the class.

After twenty minutes of grumbling, reluctant moving, and one childish temper tantrum, everyone was seated. Ralph was sitting in the first row to the left of the middle row, two seats back. Daniel was just to his right in the middle row and there were two new people sitting next to him-a blonde guy to his left, and a black-haired young man right behind him.

Ralph looked at the boy to his left. He had short blonde hair, and, unlike most blonde-haired people Ralph knew, he had light brown eyes. He appeared to be only slightly taller than Ralph and had a slight air of being part of the upper class.

"Ok, class, you may now get into groups of two and work together on the assignment,"the teacher announced and Daniel looked at Ralph expectantly. Ralph held up his hand.

"Would you like to work with us?"Ralph asked the blonde young man.

"Sure,"the boy said with a smile and he turned his desk to face Ralph.

"But only two people to a group,"Daniel pointed out, but no sooner had he said it when a girl walked over to him.

"Wanna work with us?"the girl asked. Daniel shrugged and went with her.

"So what's your name?"Ralph asked.

"Jonathan,"the young man said.

"My name is-"Ralph began.

"I know your name,"Jonathan said and Ralph stared at him."You're one of Princess Rene's bodyguards."

"How do you know that?"Ralph asked quietly.

"I personally know Rene's bodyguard,"Jonathan said.

"You mean Amber?"Ralph asked. Jonathan nodded.

"We've been friends since we were toddlers,"Jonathan explained."But don't think we ever decided to go out(like most people have). I realized I was gay in seventh grade. But I got tired of women and by the end I had discovered that I was completely homosexual."

Ralph stared at him.

"That's suprising,"he said.

"Why?"Jonathan asked.

"You don't act gay,"Ralph said.

"Oh, so there's a certain way gay guys should act?"Jonathan asked angrily.

"N-no!"Ralph stammered."I-I just-"

"Of course,"Jonathan said, glaring at his desk,"You're just like everyone else. Stereotypical."

"I'm sorry,"Ralph said."I didn't mean it like that."

"Whatever, just forget it,"Jonathan said."But, on a different note, I have a request."

"What?"

"I want to help you,"Jonathan said simply."I owe Amber, and my loyalty is to Princess Rene, so I wish to keep her and Amber safe."

"Why Amber?"Ralph asked."I know you're friends but-"

"She saved my life,"Jonathan explained."When I was nine, and foolish, I was dared by my friends to jump off the tallest building in the city I come from, which is Quarna. Even though I knew it would logically kill me, I didn't want to chicken out. The tallest building had twenty-two floors so I knew I would die...but I was stupid. Just as I was about to jump, Amber stopped me and eexplained how stupid and foolish I was being. Since then, I've tried not to give in to what my friends urge me to do. She saved me."

Ralph stared at Jonathan.

"Ok,"Ralph said."After school, make sure you meet me in the front of school."

Jonathan nodded.

"Did you just say that you both know Princess Rene?"they heard a voice ask. Ralph looked behind himself and saw one of the new students watching him. The thing that struck Ralph by suprise was the young man's appearance.

He had shoulder-length black hair that fell over his shoulders. His eyes were silver and seemed to see more than normal. His skin seemed slightly paler than normal, but it was because of the contrast with his hair that this illusion appeared.

Ralph watched the young man suspiciously. When he appeared to be nothing more than just a normal person, he felt it safe to trust the man.

"Yes,why?"Ralph said.

"I, too, would like to help,"the young man said and his eyes flashed dangerously for some reason, unnoticed by the others.

Ralph watched the young man some more.

"What's your name?"

"Maximillion,"the young man said and Ralph saw a small grin play across his lips.
