Chapter 34

This part will only be ten chapters(not including the finale) so this one will be short, but there's a lot of stuff that's gonna happen. Enjoy the first chapter to Part 3-Angel's Gambit!

The young man walked down the street at a hurried pace. However, it was not at a pace that, if anyone were actually on the streets around midnight, would suggest that he was in a rush. He did not look left or right, not even ackknowledging the occasional car or two that passed by him. Perhaps it was because of the strange silence around him that the man took a right down the alleyway, preferring to avoid the street altogether at this point.

The alleyway was almost completely back, hiding him well. So it was with mild, but silent, suprise when he noticed a young woman waiting for him. He did not expect her to notice him, but when she did not look away as he walked, he knew for certain that she was waiting for him.

He stepped into the small circle of light that the girl had created with her lantern. It was because of this that he could now see her perfectly.

She was about his height, which was actually fairly tall(five feet, seven inches) and she had waht appeared to be dirty-blonde hair with black on the tips. She was wearing something strangely extravagent for standing in the middle of an alley- a pure white dress with a matching pearl necklace.

She contrasted very much to the young man in front of her. He was wearing black pants, a black shirt, and a dark purple cloak, one of which the hood was pulled over his head, making his face impossible to see. He was wearing black fingerless gloves, the right one of which a dagger was concealed.

"What is your name?"the girl asked. The young man did not answer, deciding not to endanger himself by revealing himself so early into the encounter. When he did not say anything for a few more seconds, the girl spoke again.

"I'm sorry,"she said,"That may have been rude. Allow me to introduce myself.

"My name is Angel,"the girl said, extending a hand towards the young man. He did not accept her hand, instead choosing to glare at it. The girl retracted her hand slowly.

"You may know me as Princess Arisen,"Angel said."If you don't mind, I would like to be able to see the face of the man I am talking to."

"I do not trust you,"the young man said.

"I don't expect you to,"Angel said with a grin,"But would you please lower your hood?"

The young man hesitated a few seconds before lowering his hood, revealing shoulder-length black hair. His bangs hung at the side of his face loosely. His eyes seemed to pierce Angel's as she gazed at them, mystified by their color, which was a shiny silver. His skin was slightly paler than normal, but perhaps it was only because of his clothes that he appeared this way.

"Thank you,"Angel said."I've heard that you are a mercenary?"

The young man did not say anything, still glaring at Angel.

"My job is quite simple and can be completed easily,"Angel continued.

"What do you want?"

"I need you to kill Princess Rene, my sister,"Angel said.

"No,"the young man said, turing to leave and go a different way around Angel.

"I can pay you,"Angel said quickly.

"Well, that changes things,"the young man said, turning around to look at Angel again, a grin now on his face.

"I will pay you ten thousand dollars,"Angel said.

"Fifteen.""Angel glared at the man.

"Very well,"she said."I will pay you upon success, understood."

The young man nodded.

"What is your name?"Angel asked again. The man had turned to leave, but had stopped when asked the question.

"Maximillion,"he said, not looking back and he continued to leave. Angel watched him in fascination.

"For a seventeen-year-old, he seems very emotionally dormant,"Angel muttered to herself. She shrugged and took her leave of the alley, leaving it to look as though nothing had transpired there.

This certainly makes me wonder what's going to happen next! I love the name Maximillion! It sounds so mysterious and cool! Very intriguing chapter! I can't wait to read more! :D
