Chapter 28

Is it really Angel trying to get to Rene? And does she really intend to follow through with her threat?

"Angel?"Daniel said in suprise as people began talking frantically all around them. "What would Angel be doing here? More importantly, why is she attempting to kill us?"

"I don't know!"Rene said frantically, running her hand through her hair."What's going on?"

"Angel obviously wants to see you, but if it's for murderous intents...I can't say for sure,"Amber muttered.

"But one thing is certain,"she continued,"I won't allow you to go see her!"

"But Amber-!"Rene began to argue, but Amber interrupted.

"As your bodyguard, I will not let you be placed into a situation that may result in your death,"Amber stated sternly. It was true-Amber was Rene's best friend, but she was a master of weaponry and hand-to-hand fighting, and had been asked by Queen Shayla herself to protect Rene(and in effect Taira) at all times. That included sacrificing others to keep them alive.

"We can't sacrifice all these people!"Ralph said angrily.

"He's right!"Daniel stated."If Rene is to become the next queen, she cannot be seen as willing to sacrifice citizens' lives for her own. She will be hated among the people."

"Then the only option is to-"

"Rene, you're not going to Angel!"Amber said. The people in the hotel all around them were watching in fright. The children were crying and the adults seemed anxious.

"Ralph, Daniel, Princess Rene, up here!"a voice called from above. They looked up to the large square hole to the ceiling high above, but it was not the ceiling that caught their attention, but the person looking over the rail only a floor above them.

It was Roran.

"Come up here!"Roran said. "I know an escape route that'll keep both the princess and the citizens safe! Hurry!"

His head disappeared. Ralph and Daniel looked at each other in horror.

"How does he know?"Daniel asked furiously.

"Y-you didn't tell him?"Ralph asked quietly.

"Of course not!"Daniel said angrily."Why would I? You asked me to keep it a secret and I did!"

Ralph looked at Daniel's angry face. Suddenly, he felt himself hugging Daniel.

"I'm sorry,"Ralph said."I shouldn't have accused you. I spoke out of anger."

Ralph let go of Daniel and looked at him.

"Still friends?"Ralph asked. Daniel glared at him. Then he smiled.

"Of course."

"Hate to ruin the moment,"Amber said,"But we should get moving."

The others nodded and quickly made their way to the emergency stairs, people getting out of the way quickly.

They arrived on the second floor in a few minutes and saw Roran waiting for them by the rail on the inside square of the floor.

"So I was right,"Roran said quietly as the four approached him.

"You knew?"Ralph asked. Roran nodded.

"But how?" I made sure it was kept a secret."

"I saw you at the mall at the end of January and running towards the castel when it exploded,"Roran said.

"Oh yeah,"Daniel said."I had forgotten that we had seen you with Rene."

"So why did you try to let Michael find me?"Ralph asked.

"It was on his request that I told him what I knew. I told him everything besides what I decided to keep secret. Such as the fact that I knew Daniel ws talking to Ralph constantly and that I had seen him at the mall with Rene before."

"Why?"Daniel asked."Why didn't you tell Michael everything?"

"I figured Ralph would reveal himself when he wanted."

"And what are you doing here?"Rene asked curiously.

"I came last night to see Daniel, but you guys weren't here,"Roran said.

It was true. After Rene, Amber, and Daniel had left Ralph, they had gone to the hotel, quickly bathed, and gone out to eat without Ralph.

"It is by pure coincidence that I am here now,"Roran said.

"Okay,"Amber said impatiently,"Now that all the loose ends are tied up, tell us your plan."

"Okay,"Roran began,"I have already called a police helicopter to land on the roof. Angel is meant to see us escaping, but she won't be able to get Rene because as she goes goes after Rene in the helicopter, the real Rene will escape through the front doors."

"A decoy?"Daniel asked.

"Yes,"Roran nodded.

"She may have forseen that,"Rene said."Angel is extremely smart."

"She'll still have to pick between two escape routes,"Ralph said. "Let's hope she's a bad guesser."

Everyone else nodded and began heading to the roof.

"What if this doesn't work?"Daniel asked Roran.

"Then we wing it,"Roran said.

"Works for me,"Daniel said with a grin and they continued on to the roof.

"It seems they have help,"the mercenary siad, looking at Angel in worry.

Angel began thinking quickly.

"Even so,"Angel said with a grin,"They won't escape me forever. In the meantime, I want you to locate Orion's Bolt and bring it to me."

"But Your Highness-!"

"Do it!"

"Yes ma'am!"the mercenary quickly left.

"Run, dear sister, run,"Angel said quietly,"But you're only making the chase more fun."

And with a laugh Angel stepped inside the car, preparing herself.
