Chapter 14

A Chapter by Eidolon Michael

Something very unexpected happens to Ralph and Rene on their way to school...

"Ralph, wake up! It's time for school!"

Ralph groaned and turned over in bed.

It was Wednesday, only a few days to Valentine's Day. Still two more days till the weekend.

He sat up in bed and Rene smiled at him and said "Good morning."

Ralph nodded hello and got up to get dressed. Rene left the room, brushing her hair.

"Rene, I need you to put some bread in the toaster for me,"Queen Shayla asked Rene when she went into the kitchen. Rene quickly grabbed some bread and popped it into the toaster. She rushed up to her room and set her comb on the dresser, grabbed her school bag, and went back downstairs.

When she arrived in the kitchen, she saw Ralph waiting sleepily at the table, Queen Shayla putting eggs on three plates with bacon, sausage, and two pieces of toast each.

"Thanks,"Rene said with a smile as she began eating. She looked up to see that Ralph hadn't touched anything.

"Are you okay?"she asked. Ralph looked up at her and nodded.

In reality, he was caught up in his close encounter with his family again. It had dwelled in his mind for weeks so far, and no matter what he did, it stayed.

"Ralph. time to go,"Rene said, picking up her school bag and walking to the front door, waiting for Ralph to catch up. He walked over to her and looked back at Queen Shayla, who waved and said, "Have a good day, guys!"

"Bye mom,"Rene said, walking out the front door, Ralph right behind her. They began their normal trek to school, which was always in silence.

"Do you miss them?"

"What?"Ralph asked, looking up.

"Do you miss them all? Michael, Daniel...and the others?"

"Of course I do!"Ralph said, looking at Rene as though she were crazy.

They turned a left down the street only five minutes away from Dunelia High School. Suddenly, Ralph collapsed to his knees in pain, his head throbbing.

"Ralph!" Rene panicked, kneeling down beside him."Are you okay?"Ralph didn't answer. He moaned in pain.

He was seeing random memories, some he didn't even recognize.

He saw himself only ten years old, sobbing at the hospital over the loss of someone...but who?

He saw himself saying hi to a very cute blonde girl...what was her name?

Suddenly, almost like a movie trailer, he began to see bits and pieces of something else...

"Ralph, go!"a girl screamed.

"No! I won't!"he heard himself answer.

"Please! Leave me!"

Ralph watched as the girl smiled at Ralph from a burning truck, just in time for it to explode violently.

"NOOOOO!!!!" "

Ralph!"

Ralph opened his eyes to see himself on his knees in the middle of a sidewalk. People had crowded around to make sure nothing was wrong. He then realized how violently he was shaking.

"Are you okay?"Rene asked him, looking extremely pale.

"Taira's..."Ralph muttered to himself.

"What about Taira?"Rene asked.

"In...in one of my memories, she died..."Ralph said, looking at Rene, who turned even more pale.

"She...?"

"She's fine...but in my memory..."

"Did you see anything else?"

"Just got some more of my memory back..."Ralph looked up at Rene. "I'm sorry,"he said.

"You haven't done anything,"Rene said with a smile, standing up and helping Ralph up.

Suddenly, there was a loud boom from the direction of Rene's house.

Screams went through the air and Rene saw people running. Ralph and Rene ran to the direction of the explosion and found the cause of panic.

The castle had been blown up violently, and was still burning. Pieces of the castle were everywhere. Some had smashed into other houses. Some had simply crumbled to the ground.

Rene ran forward with Ralph to look at the burning rubble. She gave a scream. Ralph looked at the same sight and gasped.

Queen Shayla's face could just be seen from under the rubble, burned, almost unrecognizable.
