The faded words of a last breath

The screams faded with that of the rain, hitting the water and stone around them. He held her tightly in his arms, letting his tears become one with the droplets that poured upon them. The girl in his arms, stiff and shivering, weakly brought her hand to his. Her eyes quickly fluttered and her voice chipped with the bitter cold. The more his body shook with fear, she realized her fate.

 

Lighting struck in the distance of the small bridge. It lightened the area around them with quick flashes. But those flashes of light were enough to glimpse at the red that trickled down her face into the droplets of rain. At the sight of her cold, broken body, he choked with regret.

"Don't...hate me" Her final words.
