Everywhere You Look

"

Once again, things take a strange turn.

"
Farleigh carried "Edwina mannequin" through the front door while Brenda struggled with the standing legs for Edwina mannequin, her own overnight satchel, and a small bag of groceries. Farleigh acted like he owned the house, which wouldn't have been a bad thing if he wasn't already married to his own home. Brenda put away the groceries as he wandered around downstairs with Edwina in his arms. He sat on the living room couch with her in his lap, mumbled something indecipherable, then retreated into the dining room, where he sat her down at the table.

Brenda let him do whatever he wished, because she could undo whatever he had done after he left, if, and when, he left.
She asked him if he wanted to bring Frederick mannequin downstairs, and seat him at the table, also. Farleigh declined, saying that he felt that Frederick was angry at him, and that he'd have to switch the heavy plaster legs, and re dress him.

When Brenda suggested that Frederick could be standing "just behind a seated Edwina," Farleigh said that Frederick would not be able to see Edwina's face.  When Brenda suggested placing Frederick in a standing position directly across from Edwina, Farleigh immediately ran to the refridgerator, and asked Brenda if he could make a sandwich. Dealing with "default" reality was no longer one of his priorities.

Farleigh wanted to eat on the front porch. Brenda wasn't fond of the front porch ever since the tree man had shared the news about a future home being built across from her. Brenda knew that something was seriously wrong with Farleigh when he brushed off her concerns about the changes, and immediately replaced those with his own worries. He said that he would "just die" if things changed drastically around his house.

Brenda watched his jaws moving in disbelief.  Munch, chomp, swallow. Where was the real Farleigh, and who was this imposter, this "cad" from the streets ? She longed for Daniel's embrace, and remembered that he wasn't much help, either. In a silent moment, she sent Mr. Blundon a telepathic message that he understood exactly how she felt about defending her home from "chaos."

As soon as Farleigh left, Brenda telephoned Fiona, and relayed the strange turns of events without getting into the sexual details. Fiona felt that Farleigh had a physical problem, and wasn't aware of his behavior patterns, and that it would be a good idea to contact Dr. Sullivan. Brenda didn't want to lose Farleigh, and feared how he might react if he ever found out about her contacting the doctor. Perhaps, in time, Farleigh's behavior might return to normal, but Fiona felt that his problems were cyclic in nature and triggered, mostly, by insecurity.

Brenda carried the heavy mannequin, Edwina, upstairs to the ghost room. She placed her next to Frederick, and mumbled to both of them "I need your help with Farleigh." She glanced around the hallway on her way back downstairs, and marveled at the row of mannequins along every wall. She made the decision then, and there, to not only buy more mannequins, but to fill the attic with mannequins of the "three boys" at various ages during their projected developments, had they remained earthbound.

Being back at the Blundon house felt safe and sane. A hot bath, and light supper would round out what was left of the day. There were things to finish in the attic, and a shop to run. Once again, she wished for a mature man to "lean on a bit." Her parents seemed to be very busy in the spirit world, and she didn't wish to embarrass herself by whining to them. Of course, they knew what was coming up, and interfering was out of bounds. Brenda's battles were always a source of pride for them.
