Who's The Turkey ?A Chapter by EdwinaGearing up for another Holiday windowWhen the sidewalks were clear, Brenda walked to the shop and turned up the heat. She dismantled the "tribute to women" display a little at a time, then wandered next door for coffee. Harriet Wilson was there with another woman named "Joy" who was a friend of Caitlin's. Brenda immediately sent up her "throw hot oil on the enemy below gossip mill barrier." There was no way in hell that anyone would find out about her and Daniel. Karen Shaw mentioned seeing her with the "good looking guy" the other day, and Brenda said that he was trying to remodel his house, and got a few ideas from the shop. Whether anyone saw them go to the Blundon house remained to be seen. Harriet told Brenda that she enjoyed the Halloween party, and it was "nice to see Mr. Alexander again." Brenda felt that she might pee in her pants at that point, and hastened to get back to her window project. Joy didn't say much, but burned a few "eye dagger" holes into Brenda's back when the "antique dealer" eventually left the coffee shop. Caitlin would surely confront Daniel when she found out about the visit to the notorious Miss Grayson's house. She debated whether to phone him at work, and give him a warning. No, she would not do that. It wasn't life or death. At least not yet. Caitlin watched TV all day, and took care of Henry. Her life was claustrophobic, loveless, and boring. Daniel worked overtime to make ends meet, and she spent it as quickly as it came in. Brenda was still stashing his paycheck in part. Her offer to buy him a house, or buy a house and rent it to him was still valid, but Daniel was curiously stubborn. Distracting Caitlin while Henry "grew into himself" was important to her. She loved Daniel, liked Henry, and despised Caitlin. Mr. Griffin called out of the blue to apologize for being absent so much. He said that Webster, his young friend, was running him ragged. He wanted to know if she had walked down Oliver street to see the old Warren house. She said she had glanced at it one day last Spring, but knew very little about it. The name Claude Warren had come up a few times in her other circles. Griffin said that he heard Warren may run for mayor one day, and come back to Riverdale Park. Brenda half listened as she drew a sketch of a turkey head to be made into a mask that would fit on a fake turkey in a long black robe. A grim reaper gobbler basting a human lying on his back in a loincloth, and wearing big brown shoes ! Of course she would like to meet Mr. Warren, and the accidents were not to be brought up at all. Griffin promised to come by one day and see the attic again. Brenda wasn't sure if he was ready to hear about her psychic experiences, but he was a Freemason. Surely he would keep an open mind no matter what she shared ? C J. Marks © 2013 Edwina |
