They

They

A Poem by Claire Chitty
"

A short poem written in a 5 minute slot that I had before a meeting a work.

"
Hush little one
Keep silence still
for in this house
are things that kill.
Quiet little one
No breath you make
within the darkness
they sit in wait.
Watch little one
See through the gap
we'll wait in here
until they nap.
Slowly little one
Sneak silently past
for if they wake
our life won't last.

An eerie little poem with a big looming shadow...
I like the fact that the 'little one' has no real detail: like, they could be a mouse, or a person, or even a mere aspect of ones personality. It's open ended, yet ominous, too. Excellent dichotomy, economy, and atmosphere.

Thank you.
Gives me chills, very creep, but well written.

Thank you.
I like this. How about for the second line
Keep silent and still

And if you add 'my' before little one (except in the first stanza), I think it scans better.
