Would You Run?A Story by Emily CannonWould you run miles for a loved
one? If you found out they were shot, at the hospital almost dead. Would you? I
would. If I found out he got shot I would run to him, literally and its not
only because I don’t have a car but if I did it would be faster then running.
But I don’t care, for him I would. He’s been there for me since day
one, he holds me when I cry because of the jerk who broke my heart. When we
drive around he always keeps me safe and makes sure we have a good time. He’s
been like a brother to me. Yet now because of some bad s**t he’s possibly
already dead. He became a drug dealer not to
long ago and made some enemies. I told him to walk away and argued for days
with him. Even slapped him across the face once. But he was only doing it
because he wanted to put his mother in a good home and had no other way of
paying it. Until he couldn’t pay off the big guy. So now after all the fighting,
after all the door slamming in the faces, I run to him. He needs me now and I’ll be here till the end
with him. Until his friend is sitting at a park bench outside the hospital with
his face in his knees. I drop to my knees. After all we did together he’s
just gone. And now I sit at his grave looking
at it tearing up because he was there for me and I couldn’t even safe
him from this path. The cold nights where I know he’s
not coming, the even colder days where I know we’re not going to be able to
drive around aimlessly. The evening lonely dinners, the shittest breakfast with
no laughter while throwing pancake batter around. Everything’s different without
him in my life. Yet I move on with my day with the dog tags he wore and a smile
on my face. © 2015 Emily Cannon |
