which witch what

which witch what

A Poem by annie lee
"

a rengo -- a little something for All Hallows Eve

"

tobias hooker

knew how to cast a witching

spell: a monotone

rasping in his throat, one arm

extended, finger pointing

to a bleak somewhere.

as he spoke, his stomach caved

inward, as if words

were draining the essence of

his soulless self.  his eyes rolled

back and his teeth bared,

even the brave among us,

the unbelievers

and the cynic felt the chill

as the dark words washed over

all of us.  smiling,

he stopped, laughed, “it tis a joke,”

tobias hooker

said.  “my ol’ granny taught me

when I was a boy.

c’mon, let’s go to the pub

and lift a few in honor

of my ol’ late gran.”

so off to the pub we traipsed

to drink a pint or

two.  but we took care, we did,

‘cause tobias hooker knew.

Clever write, my friend! I've been away for a bit, so I missed this on "All Hallow's Eve", but it still resonates with me in that otherworldly sort of way. Always a pleasure to read your work!

Oh, I really like this one! I can just see that tobias hooker casting that spell! Wise were the children who took care - they knew "fer shur"!! Wise indeed was the granny!!

His ole granny taught him all sorts of things, I bet. Very clear images here. I could see the changeling in Tobias Hooker. Angi~
