always in close pairs or chattering droves, they seldom travel alone, but some do: with prim umbrellas and primmer valises, they avoid the crowds, avoid the seasons
and for their prim pains, shrewdly, silently, enjoy lower rates, badly-mended sheets, empty dining rooms and lonely terraces. then in summer, off-season for them, they sit and dream about the terraces, long to be jostled, to be forced to wait for a table. they sit and count pennies: knowing others seldom travel alone, always in close pairs or chattering droves, sans umbrella, being in love with the rain, off-season I, penny-wise us, alone
