thoughts after attending a funeralA Poem by annie leewhen I am gone and all that remains is ashes in a tasteful jar, please say only truth over me. don't let them say she was a beacon of light to other Christians because I’m not. don't let them paint me as some meek and mild sister, my head demurely covered and my eyes lowered in submission. they can say she loved to laugh and she loved to hear the laughter of others. they can say she loved to give because I do. they can say I loved my friends fiercely. my loved ones more fiercely, and I hated injustice. they can say I worked hard, I dreamed big, I was a pushover for cats and puppies and babies. but don't let them say I was a devout woman, one of Christ's saints. because I hold the teachings of Christ too precious to dilute them thus. my eyes were not always on Him. He knows that, and I won't lie. say that I loved this earth, this exquisite little planet He put us on, and I had a great time. I hope it can be said of me that I passed on the goodness that I received in this life. if that can be said, say nothing else.
