semantics for unromantics

semantics for unromantics

A Poem by annie lee
"

we use words so thoughtlessly. we need to remember the meanings. don't dilute your joy or sorrow with careless word use.

"

merely  merely  merely:

a kind word                   a simply word,

merely:   soft chimes at dusk

perhaps a harsh word,

a grating word

with a rough edge

that saws against

tender flesh heartlessly.

two syllables that

pierce or soothe:

merely

the muted sounds of

shepherd and flock going home

in the evening

distant laughing voices, little bells

like the vague and loving whispers

of mother to child

merely

a reprimand                   a slight

merely

a word
