What a wonderful, wonderful poem! It's full of fun, the meter's great, plus, almost more importantly, in spite of the two of you being opponents, there's a strong sense of friendship.
' God save me from this Chessman's Hell! From this Chess King of Israel! / Beaten, burned, near insane, Save me! Yosmos 100 's here again! ' Those two lines are so well put together and their meaning's had me in near hysterics!
Thank you so much for sharing a very well constructed post and, giving me such pleasure at the same time....
Haha! That was great. I would change the name of the poem, though, "Playing Yossi on Gameknot Online Chess" is just way, way too long. Most of it didn't even show up on my read request. Plus, you created such a great imagery with describing him as the King of Israel. I would go with "King of Chess" or "King of Israel" or something like that, play around with it.
Your words:
Yossi poet of romance, plays his chess like satan's dance.
My chessmen flee the brimstone board as Pawns with talons scoop their hoard.
Quickly comes an on line "mate". My King in flames in Yossi's grate.
God save me from this Chessman's Hell! From this Chess King of Israel!
Beaten, burned, near insane, Save me! Yosmos 100 's here again!"
I LOVE IT!
I LOVE IT!
I LOVE IT!
Passion driven though the romance of a King & Queen!
{{my dad would scream!}} wink!
Haha, well done Ron. Not to worry I 've played Yossi so many times and I think I've yet to win a game yet! Awesome poem though. Describes him perfectly heheheee!
Almost Yossi, you persuade me to learn to play chess. Two problems however stop me. I am told it requires a brain - well for me that's insuperable. Secondly, I am a born coward - all this sulphur and brimstone and fires of hell and especially that fearsome Israeli King, terrify me.
I'll stick to swapping poems with that nice chap Yossi, while Ron, who has by the way written above an excellent poem which I read and laugh and enjoy, can deal on his own with the dreaded King of Israel. Ron, never mind the fire etc, look out for a sling and 5 small stones from the Brook Kedron and his mate called Jonathon. They're lethal.
Aaah, the hard to learn truth in life that we all find out eventually; whatever it is that we are best at, no matter what it is, there is ALWAYS someone who is better than you. That goes for Yos too, of course. Enjoyable read.
