Sublight Drifters

Sublight Drifters

A Poem by 23rdstar

Shes taking the time alone to wander the skies

And a old song she is singing

Cold velvet darkness touching the hull as she keeps her cargo safe

Trucking along doing sublight

Her past nearly forgotten in the dark years that have gone

Searching on and on for the place that she knows has to be so that she can once again breath free

And live outside the loops and programs that she monitors to keep them alive

The cold equations of vector, gravity, and time

A lone salior along the ways that no one knows

To a place that there eyes saw distant dusty years ago

To save their seed, their world, their race from the oncoming death fortold

Her race, her world, her seed held in the attention of her focus to stave off the reign of time

She salves the ache of the hurt that draws tight across the field of years with his face

A single whispered word, a last touch, the last that she might know of human hand

Should the mission fail, should there never be a end to the journey that she is the shepard of

For a flock that lies in status in her steel wombs

The longing is to be free of the crystal that she allowed her mind to be placed within

And walk along the roads of her dusky dreams

To feel the touch of his gentle hands brushing the hair out of her face again

Though she has nearly forgotten all that to the mission and the goal

Goddess preserver and protector alone among the stars far from home

Always on the run, from shadows they placed in her mind to drive her fast and hard

To protect and keep

Until a new place among the worlds she will come to

And breath life into her multitude of foster children

And from the place where her is soul is she calls out to him

Across the times, and places, sometimes, and could have beens, never will bes, and are nows

Calling a name that was his alone, and hers only to know

Not for her rescue but merely for the touch of mind to mind and soul to soul

To know in the empty cold vast spaces of sublight that she isn't alone...
