Phule's Day...

We celebrate Phule's Day... A poem of the world of Elsewhere

"
I watched as the rest of the Crowes came strolling down the road at dawn
While the Dogs kept laughed and handed the bottles of wine back and forth
The dams held their pups up to see the coming blazing glory of the sun
While the Wolf packs trotted all 'round
Their grim faces painted as if for the burning fight of a war
They smiled though and yelped, sang and danced among the timid sheep
Who bleated about their not being enough of the smoking green to go around
While the lone gunslinger walked among us all
Looking for lady who likes to wear a red dress that comes up to here
So that all the fellers can see the sweetness of her flower when she dances
And you know that man is gonna lay her down in the cool grasses
of the glade over those hills
And sire himself a son who will be born
Who will be here with us all to hear the songs, and taste the goodness of living
That we celebrate on Phule's Day!

Come down from the mountains on Phule's Day
Come to the pasture where we have set up the tents and banners
Where they have rolled out the kegs and tapped them
And the roast joints of meat singe the air with their savory tastes
Even the Blackbirds have come with their Raven wives
To listen to the pipe and drum that play the tune along with the fiddle this day

Phule's Day!
For the Crowes won the day
And now we sing not for the glory of war
But because the world declared peace
And be kneel on bended knee to the graceful lady of heaven
While she blesses cub, pup, kid, and child
On Phule's Day!

I watched the cat dancers
Tumble and whirl
As they held ribbons that floated around then in rivers of colour
And that dancing hippo pulled me to the side away from them
So that she could show me the way
To her own sweetness
Damn that was a hell of a Phules Day!

We take joy in the glory of peace
And make a mockery of ourselves
Launch the fireworks
Listen the heartsung songs
And remember those who passed in the wars
So that we could come to have a day like today
Phule's Day...
