Until I lost you

Until I lost you

A Poem by Olivia Danielle

I feel numb

My body tingles at the slightest noise

Your name echoes through my head

My fingers pulse

At night my head pounds

Thinking of you

As if someone is locked up

Trying to escape

You would not have liked it

The flowers were white

You wanted yellow

People cried and didn’t touch the food

I know you would’ve hated that

He slurred your name

As he drank his sixth beer

Everyone missed you

But your loss destroyed him

You would not have liked

Knowing you had this much impact on others

Some tried to join you

Failed, but tried

I felt numb, always

I tried carving your name

Deep into my skin

To have you forever

To forget I’d lost you forever

I never knew I could feel so much

And yet, so little

Until I lost you

I never knew I could be so thankful for life

And want it to end so badly

Until I lost you

I never knew you

Until I lost you

The loss of someone who means a great deal to you can inflict so much emotional pain. I felt that pain here as I progressed through your lines and the funeral and other mourners attending. I felt like a fly on the wall. Sometimes we can be surprised at our own emotions and the depth of them when it comes to loss. Very well conveyed Olivia.

My pleasure.
This was a real, emotional punch to the gut. The narrator feels like they're a numb, sad mess, and it's far too relatable. The feeling of not knowing almost what it feels like ANYTHING until you lose it... we've been there and done that, but you managed to convey it in words and make it magical.
