Kneel

Kneel

A Poem by Olivia Danielle

The day I kneel before you

Is the day I give up

You save those who forfeit

You help those who cave

You hurt those who stand

And don’t plant their forehead on the ground

Those who kneel are frightened

Their tears sink into the dirt

Replenishing it

Lifting the very ground you stand on

I do feel for them

If you are as they say you are

There is nothing you could offer me

There is no one who could make me

There is nothing you could say

That would make me kneel before you

I’m not asking for forgiveness

I’m not begging for mercy

I’m simply standing my ground

I won’t kneel before you
