Paper worlds

Paper worlds

A Poem by Olivia Danielle

Our story begins 7 years ago.

A fenced in playground.

A quiet girl.

With no one, no story.

Across the fence, two girls, hand-in-hand.

Both staring, curiously.

Wondering where to begin.

They picked up a pen, and wrote my story.

They drew me a world, filled with colours, love, and magic.

I was so much more to them on paper.

Than in real life.

So afraid to admit, I couldn’t see the world they drew me.

But the way they spoke, the colours.

The magic.

All my life I waited for explanations.

This world was free of complications.

Within, was the world I had only pretended to belong to.

They put down the pen.

I wrote my story.

The good, the bad, the heartbreak, the tears, the love.

All happened with two girls.

In their own world.

Was so much more.

Than what meets the eye.
