The Inbetween

The Inbetween

A Poem by Carmen Williams
"

Prompt was to write a where I'm from poem (writers workshop 2021 poem 2)

"

I am from the in-between

Between CDs and radio stations

Shivering cold vs. sweltering heat

Soda cans or coffee cups

I am from surnames split 50/50

From altered schedules and unsaid thoughts

From changes never made

Questions never asked

From secret codes to radio silence

But where I’m from isn’t who I am

Because you can’t live in the in-between

So I am acoustic guitars at sunset

I am long novels on rainy days

I am a whirlwind of pages

Of sketches and stories

Of people and places

I am bitter and tired

Quiet and I hope kind

I am from a lot of things

But I chose what things I am
