A Poem by Carmen Williams

Blackness, like a blanket
light, out of reach
The door, slamming shut
why am I here?

An ocean of people
one word goes out in ripples
we are hardly equal
why am I here?

cold wind, like lashing claws
shivers, down the spine
if I stop, I'll never unpause
Why am I here?

Laughing people, pointing fingers
burning face, as I run away
tears, that linger
Please, get me out of here.
