The Hunted

The Hunted

A Poem by Dream Catcher

Time to build a stronger house
The straw is light as a feather
betraying me with its sways in windy weather
The sticks break and splinter
cutting my raw skin in winter
Maybe i should build it out of brick
sturdy and won't give way
predators won't feast to my dismay
but i will still hear to wolves howl
and it will echo like a night owl
I'm no longer a breezy girl or a sharp whip lady
but a stone hard women

Now locked away i crave the eyes of the wolves at bay
I fall prey to the desire they hold
his eyes are a blaze but his heart is cold
The pack follows in a slow saunter, snouts dripping, they howl my name
I run but they only bother to chase as part of the game
Now I'm not even a stone hard women but a wide eyed doe

The trees whisper as I tear past
I whip my head around jerky and fast
I hear them all, the snarling wolves, the leaves rustling in laughter
I dare a glance back and don't take another step after
My flesh yields to his teeth, I feel the piercing pain and quiver
his cold hard heart steals my warmth and I'm left to shiver
Now what am I?
Just another one of the hunted

Author's Note

Dream Catcher
I originally wrote three separate poems but then I re-read them and they seemed to be connected so I put them together.
