A Rose For Every LieA Poem by AudreyI never liked roses. They were so temporary in their life span. Just as you had been in mine. A rose for every lie you told A rose for every disappointment How many times had you promised you'd be there and you weren't? I lost track after twice. Why so many more chances afterwards? Maybe I wanted to believe in you. Hoping to see something that just didn't exist. It doesn't make you a bad person, just bad for me. There's nothing to forgive, so you needn't say you're sorry when you know you're not. I know who and what you are Don't waste the lovely bearing of roses to cover your falsehoods You're only killing a fresh lovely flower. Don't ask me to meet you anywhere just for a last chance to explain yourself, either. I know you won't be there. But, for once you did in fact wait for me, much to my surprise I watched from afar, it wasn't for very long. When you left our proposed meeting place, I had taken a page from your play book and dropped a dead carnation on the ground for you to find. You knew it was left by me, You know, I never liked roses anyway.
