Child with No Name

Child with No Name

A Poem by Shannon
"

A poem of a mother to her unborn child.

"

Hold on now, my little one,

It will all be over soon,

And when the deed is done,

You can hide in your cocoon.

It may be painful now,

But I promise when it’s through,

Your mom and dad won’t ever row,

'Cause they really do love you.

We’re doing this to save you,

And even though we’ll cry,

We’ll always have a place for you,

We just can’t say goodbye.

My little baby with no name,

Who’s laid inside my womb,

Your home is no longer the same,

It has become your tomb.

We could no longer keep you,

We put you to your sleep,

This world wasn’t ready for you,

But we will always weep.

Your heart isn’t very strong dear,

It won’t keep going for long,

Don’t cry the end is near,

And I’ll sing you another song.

We knew that you were weak,

Your body was too small,

But your heart has got a leak,

Can you hear the Lord's call?

Save a place for us with you,

Open up the pearly gate,

We’ll be there when we’re due,

You just have to wait.

I’ll sing to you every night,

You’ll be in my dreams,

Goodbye, my child, good night,

It won’t be as long as it seems.

The heartbeat slowly dies,

And I’m left feeling lost,

Mom and daddy cry,

My baby’s pain-free cost

Author's Note

Shannon
This isn't from my own experience. It's something I just wrote about a mother who has to abort her child so it won't be in pain. I am anti-abortion unless it will
a) Kill the mother
b) Is a conviction of rape
c) Is going to be born in unbearable pain (Like the baby in the poem)

WOW! This is truly an amazing and emotional write. I'm anti-abortion also, but I can also see where you're coming from for reasons for it. This is very sad, and yet there's so much expression in it. You seem to have alot of expression in your writing, and I really like seeing that. Keep up the great work!

This brought me to tears. It also brings up a good moral question. Do we allow a life to be taken because they are in pain? The world struggles with this ethical dilemma constantly. I do want to say that it is rare for a pregnancy to take place from rape. Normally a woman's body goes into shock, and her cycle will be interrupted. Pregnancies do occur though from rape. I think you wrote this very well, and I don't see where I would improve upon it.

Beautifully done with masterful rhyme and meter. A very emotional, very powerful, very heart-felt, melancholy piece. Very well done!

The poem is very sad. For a parent to make this decision would be a heart braking task. You told a strong story. Your ending is very true. Parent will be sad for many years. A very good poem.

Wow. Its an established theme but what an achingly lovely piece of poetry. I am stunned by your gravity and maturity in this poem. This is so good. It really stirred so much emotion in me. This is so true. A life which never gets to see the sunlight, hear the birds and get the love and care it so deserves. One so wishes that he/she goes to heaven and live eternally
