BEACH WALK

BEACH WALK

A Poem by Zeek4
"

The juxtaposition of life. Strolling on the beach in Coronado, California.

"
it’s gorgeous-----sunny as I stroll the ocean’s edge, a gentle breeze

wafting off the sea

on the horizon warships silhouetted against blue sky

i leave waffle patterns as i meander a serpentine trail

   avoiding the wet

behind me navy seals, occasionally running past as the

lieutenant tries to break their spirit

a group of sanderlings scurry across dampened beach

little legs twirling as if spinning on an axel

the roar of an f15 screeches overhead making pass after pass

honing skills to one-day land on a patch of metal bobbing on the

                                                      sea

i hear thuds as seagulls bounce clams off hardened sand

        looking for a treat

out of site stand huge flat-topped monoliths with enough weapons

                                         to wipe out a country

a group of beauties scream as they tiptoe into the sea

off the point nuclear subs are based waiting for deployment

                                                a little girl

innocence on her pixie face

                                  picking jewels from the sand

as i pass she looks up and smiles

what a world we live in

i hear the roar of the ocean and feel mist on my face

         it’s still a beautiful day

I agree with Steel. There are such contrasts in this. War-like machines an attitudes as compared to a a little girl and a group of beauties. Beauty and dreadfulness exist together at times in our world. So do peace and danger. Side by side at times. Interpretations of observations make us who we are. Nice writing.

Well this about undid me today. I know this place well and spent much time on this island as a child - before they built the bridge in fact. Never thought to see the paradox as stated here.o. too busy being the girl plucking jewels from the sand. Thanks for stealing THAT memory. Kidding. A clear message of irony nicely wrapped in a beautiful sunny Southern California beach day.

To see the beauty within the smallest of things amongst the chaos is surreal. Sometimes the whirlwind can cause a moment of reflection... we all need to be still to capture the beauty of the day, even if for a moment. This is breathtaking write.

and all it takes is a sweetly innocent smile!

The contrasts, ironies, naked contradictions of life are truly incredible...as you have illustrated well in this poem. Difficult to get the mind around the extremes sometimes, as seen in one short walk.

Excellent...

I wish I were there (you made me feel as if I was), nuclear subs and all. A day at the beach is still a day at the beach!

what a world indeed. Smooth, home hitting write Z. We have to make a conscious effort to sift the grain from the chaff. Juxtaposition, at least we get a choice what we choose to put effort to noticing. A walk on the beach, a hike through the forest, it's good to stretch the legs..........

A bladed piece which is relaxed enough to allow the reader to really think of the prose, well done
