I stood in our front yard and admired my freshly painted house. It was still green, but more of pastel green now, like a babies room. We also put up some beige brick around the base and up the steps and reroofed it. It looked like a brand new house. I smiled as I thought of the inside. The dining room now held a couple curio cabinets and a six-person dining table. And the walls were a pretty dark brown, with a blue chandelier that lit the whole room up. The kitchen got a complete reface with new cabinets and tile and now was a pretty gray modern kitchen. The living room was decorated with the same blue and brown décor as the dining room, but with more furniture. It now held a soft brown sectional couch, two blue patterned chairs, and a mahogany coffee table. The TV was sitting on a brand new mahogany chest. Upstairs the two guest rooms were rid of junk and furnished. The first was a pretty coral color theme with a chair, a bed, side tables and a dresser. The second was a pretty green room the color of the outside of our home with two beds, a table set and a TV on a dresser. Our room was the most impressive. On the side that had nothing on it, we built a floor to ceiling bookshelf. The bed in the middle was a nice big king with white bedding and under it a fuzzy rug. The his and her closets were stocked and there were now two bedside table with two lamps. The master bathroom we didn’t have to change at all. It was beautiful. The his and her sink cabinets and linen cabinets were the same dark wood as our bed headboard. There was a walk in shower and a huge Jacuzzi tub. I was so house proud. Suddenly I was pulled out my trance by a tap on my shoulder. It was Temp. “Can you stop ogling your new house and come on over here?” she asks motioning toward the barn. “oh yeah the trail ride. I’m sorry.” I reply and follow her as she heads into my new big barn.

After our trail ride we rode over to my father’s farm to visit the horses I couldn’t take with me to Lane’s. Like Chanche and Halle and Calle. First we stopped in to talk with my mom. “Hey mum. What’s up?” I called as I walked in and she was right there. “We just got called into the breeding barn. Halle fell, they think she broke her cannon bone.” She says and I gasp, she takes my hand and leads me out of the door. “Come on now. We have to get over there,” she says, pulling me behind her. When we got to Halle’s stall what I saw sickened me, one of my most loved horses lying on the ground nickering in pain. How she fell in this small stall I wasn’t even sure. I rushed in the stall and knelt by the horse’s head. She looked up at me with strained eyes and nickered softly. Her leg looked swollen. I bit my lip and looked up at mom. I had a feeling once the veterinarian got here it was going to go downhill. Dr. Dan showed up a few minutes later and after what seemed like a few hours, but really was a few minutes, he came out of the stall. He frowned at the little group of people in the aisle. It consisted of me, Jill, mom, Tempy, and Ford. “Well she definitely broke her cannon bone, in two places from what I can feel around the swelling. A young horse would have trouble healing from a break that bad. I hate to do this but I think…” he started and I knew what he was going to say. I started crying. Ford did a surprising thing. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders. Dr. Dan continued. “I think we may have to put her down.” He said. I burst into fresh tear and shook away from Ford. I had to get out of here. It was all too much. I ran from the stables, past the paddocks and behind a few trees, where I stopped falling to the ground, crying. Losing a horse was almost as bad a losing a human in my standards. I sobbed in my hands until I heard footsteps and I subsided to steady tears. “Oh Vivi, I’m so sorry.” I hear Temp’s voice say and hear her land with a soft thud as she sits beside me. I can’t even bring myself to look at her I was crying too much. She put an arm around me and pulled me closer to her. “It’ll be alright. You’re okay Viv.” She says, rubbing my shoulder. My tear subdued to sniffles after a few minutes of violent sobs. I lifted my head and looked at her. “Oh god, Vivi, your nose is bleeding.” She says and pulls out a tissue from her pocket, handing it to me. I quickly wipe my nose and then hold the tissue to it. She smiles at me. “ I know you loved her Vivi. But she’s in a better place now, right?” she asked and I nodded, tears glistening in my eyes. She stands up and brushes herself off. “Oh boy, you got blood and tears on my jeans.” She laughs and helps me up. “Sorry about that.” I say softly. She shrugs and slings an arm around my shoulder walking me toward the barns. “What else are friends for?”
